Wilderness Christians: EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY (Part 11)

Only one word can accurately explain and describe the exceeding and abundant provisions God has for you.  This is what has been locked behind the door of your heart, just waiting to be released.  That one word is not a thing.  He truly is a hidden treasure in your heart.

  • That word is a person – a living person.
  • That word became flesh like you and me.  He actually once lived as a man clothed in a human body like yours.
  • That word died on a cross for you 2000 years ago so He could live in you now.
  • That word gave up His life in death as man so He can share His life in you as God.
  • That word permits you to live miraculously with the only obvious explanation being God living in you.
  • That word permits you to be a physical expression (through sight, sound, touch, hearing, and walking) of an invisible, living God – the Holy Spirit residing in man.
  • That word permits you to make decisions that only exhibit the intimate and very deep love God has for you.
  • Yes, that Word is JESUS.

No wonder it is exceedingly and abundantly forever.  What a truly magnificent God!  He offered for you His one and only Son, whom He loved so very dearly; He offered Him so God can reside again in His creation.

At the beginning of this book, I stated the question, “Are you out of gas”?  The truth is with the Real Word you will NEVER run out.  You have the outstanding opportunity to experience Jesus Christ every moment of every day for the remainder of your life.  You deeply need to absorb this last statement –  “You have the outstanding opportunity to experience Jesus Christ every moment of every day for the remainder of your life”.  What a true salvation – God in you!

Jesus did not come just to get you out of hell and into heaven; He came to get God out of heaven and back into you.  God in you is NORMAL Christian living, very normal.  As a car cannot run without gas and as a flashlight cannot operate without batteries, you cannot function normally as a Christian unless you permit Jesus in you to live the Christian life through you.  Colossians 3:3-4 says that He is our life.  “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory”.  For man to function normally, he needs the presence of His creator in Him.  Brethren, this is who lives in you right now.  This is whom you have kept locked up in the door of your heart, collecting only dust and cobwebs.  Enjoy Him.  Enjoy your intimacy with Him.  He only desires deep, intimate love with you.  With this intimate love, why desire anything else?

It really is quite simple to live the Christian life once you permit Christ to live it.  He RIGHT NOW, at this very moment, is your Christian life.  Otherwise, to live the Christian life does not become difficult to live; it becomes impossible to live.  Why do you subject yourself to your self-imposed poverty state?  I need not explain or convince you what a pathetic example of a Christian you have become since you do not permit Christ to live His life through you.  You have obtained His inheritance for heaven, His very life, and a co-heir in God’s redemptive plan of salvation.  Therefore, why deny Him His inheritance now – Him in you?  Ephesians 1:11-12 – “In Whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will.  That we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ”.  The Holy Spirit convicts you very strongly and very convincingly of your barrenness, impatience, self-righteousness, arrogance, covetousness, etc. – definitely not the fruit of the spirit.  This is why Jesus strongly desires to free you from bondage and oppression; people will then come in contact with you and automatically notice the difference.  You can rest assured that God will personally ensure they do notice.  They will see Christ in you – God in action.  Outstanding!  With this type of life from Jesus, who would desire the pleasures of sin?  Why settle for Egypt when the Lord lives in you now?

Go for Him, brethren.  He is always awaiting you with open arms of love.  His love truly comes from the Father.

What a life!  What a salvation!  What a God!

Evidence of Exceeding, Abundant Life

This is exactly what the disciples experienced in the upper room on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2).  They now fully understood what Jesus meant that a grain of wheat (seed) must die so that it may produce much fruit.  John 12:24 – “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone; but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit”.  Jesus had to give up His life in death so He could now give (and share) His resurrected life in the disciples.  They could now share this resurrected life through them to this depressed, very needy world.  No wonder the disciples turned the first century world upside down.  The people saw the resurrected life of Christ in the disciples.  They saw God (in man) in action.  No wonder salvation came by the thousands.  Jesus, and only Jesus, was truly being lifted up and glorified.

Brethren, this is what is missing today in Christianity.  We left Him locked in the closet of our heart.  We struggle in self-imposed poverty to produce fruit of the flesh.  We have turned a relationship into a religion.

Only Christ can live this life.  I learned the hard way living in the wilderness.  Not any longer.  I refuse to sell myself short of God’s abundant life in me.  We share Christ’s life on earth now until we share it fully with Him in heaven.  What a joy!  What an experience!  Jesus was so real and alive to the first century church.  (And they had no New Testament writings.)  Why do you focus your mind and backslide into Egypt, when you see so clearly this abundant, joyful life just waiting to be released in you and through you?

Wilderness Christians: THE ABNORMAL CHRISTIAN WILDERNESS (Part 10)

The Abnormal Christian Wilderness

This wilderness life is what this blog series specifically addresses.  It is the unbelieving children of Israel turning the eleven-day journey into the 40-year chronic adventure.

Approximately 90-95% of born-again believers live in the type of wilderness, dumped in the desert.  They rejoice at being redeemed by the shed blood of the Lamb; but, rarely, if at all, live in regeneration (new birth) of His resurrected life TODAY, drinking His blood for His life.  Most are not even aware of it because it has never been taught or rarely experienced on a daily basis by other Christians.

The wilderness Christian is a carnal Christian.  He undeniably knows Christ is the only answer to life; but will not enter into the rest of total dependency upon Christ for every moment of every day.  He refuses to enter for various reasons – fear, insecurity, pride, control, peer pressure, lack of recognition, etc.  He refuses to enter Canaan, and cannot retreat to a life in Egypt (although he still strongly covets Egypt in his mind and in his heart).  He permitted God to remove him out of Egypt but never permitted God to remove Egypt out of him.

So what is left?  Only the wilderness – with all its dry, barren land, its hot scorching sun, totally lifeless.  One living in the wilderness definitely struggles and sweats in his Christian walk 24 hours each day.

The apostle Paul basically calls carnal Christians babies.  They are not ready for meat, only milk.  Therefore, like a baby, you shove a bottle of milk in his mouth for the carnal Christian to suck on.  This will keep his big mouth shut.  A carnal Christian naturally then becomes a sucker for the devil – very gullible and never growing up.  You become spared from any further crying, complaining, murmuring, and whining.  However, sparing is only seasonal, unless he permits the Holy Spirit to begin dealing with his flesh.  WHAT A BABY!

A wilderness Christian can be spotted in any crowd, even ten miles away.  His Christian walk looks so attractive and impressive; but, he can be easily uncovered because the Holy Spirit reveals the heart.

Listed below are major signs/symptoms that wilderness Christians have.  A Christian is truly a wilderness Christian if many of these symptoms persist and/or occur on a consistent basis over time.

  1. He always brags and boasts about his Christian walk.
  2. He always looks to be the center of attention.
  3. He talks too much when he should be listening more.
  4. He emphasizes spiritual gifts.
  5. He emphasizes Christian ministry.
  6. He boasts of the big and great things he does for God.
  7. He rarely is able to sit quietly for a lengthy period and absorb the Word of God.
  8. During most upbeat praise and worship songs, he is jumping or dancing in the aisles, clapping his hands wildly and ‘uncontrollably’.
  9. He has numerous Jesus pins and bumper stickers – proudly displaying them.
  10. He flees quickly when confronted with the ‘heart truth’ of his wilderness.
  11. He often searches for anyone who will listen to him speak, instead of first going to the Lord.
  12. He often states his opinion when not asked for.
  13. He knows Scripture very well, but becomes abrupt when challenged about total dependency upon Christ to live the Christian life.
  14. He accepts much credit for service or ministry work performed, even if he had limited participation, if any at all, in its impact.
  15. He often complains bitterly, frequently having ‘a chip on his shoulder’.
  16. He remembers and yearns for his unsaved days of Egypt (which should have remained buried in the Red Sea).
  17. He is extremely sensitive, easily offended, and very impatient.
  18. He strongly covets, very enviously, another believer’s love, joy, peace, and success in the Lord.  He keeps this yearning coveted in his heart.
  19. He very frequently blames others for his own problems.
  20. With relentless consistency, he gossips and slanders other believers, truly magnifying their weaknesses, instead of covering them with love.

(Personal Note: If you are becoming angry with me for writing my thoughts in this book, you truly are a wilderness Christian.  You have absolutely NO right to be angry with me.  I am only writing what the Holy Spirit directs.  You need to take your anger, in intimacy, to the Lord.  You should be very grateful to the Holy Spirit. Obviously, the Holy Spirit has revealed flesh/sin areas in your life that Jesus wants to free you from.  He is revealing your flesh big time; and He totally uproots ALL flesh.  I will intercede for you.)

What a life the wilderness Christian has!  What a very sad testimony for Christ!  How much are you a wilderness Christian?  No wonder the wilderness is so sad.  No wonder so many wilderness Christians are so dry and dead – dry as the desert and as dead as bones.  How can anyone ever rest with these types of symptoms characteristic in his life?  He does his best for Jesus 24 hours a day in his own self-effort.  These symptoms cause me to recall an accurate statement a brother in Christ exclaimed at one time.  He stated that to serve in Christian ministry today you do not need to pass a doctrinal exam, you need to pass a physical exam.  Is this not so true today in the majority of Christian churches?  How accurate and true his statement is!

The wilderness Christian can be described as if you, as a burnt out believer, have recently purchased a new home with a basement door that has never been opened.  All you were advised from the previous owners and tenants was that whatever is behind the door was absolutely worthless.  They had never even attempted to open the door.  Inches of dust had accumulated over the years.  In fact, the key has been lost for many years and no occupant was even the slightest interested in finding it.  Your neighbor, whom you have not met yet, has reinforced to the previous occupants the insignificance of the door.  You learn also that your neighbor has always resided in his house even prior to when your home was constructed.

You invite him over one afternoon and learn that he often visits; sometimes uninvited.  But he has such a peaceful, kind disposition that you can understand how the previous occupants always permitted him entry.  He introduces himself as Luc.  You observe Luc as a very personable individual, very keen and highly intellectual.

You believe you have a new friend.  Over the next few months, you become aware that he often speaks about the locked door in the basement.  He sternly, and quite convincingly, indicates of the great, potential danger that must lie behind the door.

Then one day while gardening, you discover a key buried in a pile of dirt you scooped up.  (This is actually the awakening of the Holy Spirit for you.)  Immediately you ponder if this may be the lost key.  You quickly call your neighbor Luc over.  Suddenly his disposition changes; a frightening and shocking countenance is displayed.  This confuses you.  You have never seen him like this.  He swiftly attempts to cover his expressions.  He suddenly attempts many times to relieve you of the key and throw it away.  “It probably is not the key to that door.  In fact, I will gladly assist you.  Give me the key and I will ensure you never find it again.  Remember the danger that lies behind the door.”  “No” you say.  “What is the big deal?  If it is, I am very interested and determined to uncover what is behind the door.”

Luc aggressively attempts to reason with you.  He implies you will become like all the previous occupants and move away.  You have become his friend and he desires to keep things just as they are.  You consider.  However, your Christian life has truly been a mess lately; a mess even being born again.  You sense you need to be alone with the Lord to sort things out.  You advise Luc to please leave because he is becoming angrier.  You begin to sense the Holy Spirit stirring your heart that something is just not quite right with Luc.  You are very pensive about him.  What a change in personality he displayed!

Now you are even more confused.  You have always attempted to be good-natured and respectful since you became a born-again Christian.  But, Luc now only expresses hatred, bitterness, and envy toward you.  You attempt to shake it off but cannot; Luc’s thoughts and actions are now becoming more oppressive on your mind.  You have to call on God for help to clear your mind.  You know God always loves you and comes to your aid despite your burnt out Christian walk.  You turn back to the Lord and meditate on His Word.  God tells you to make Luc flee in His Name because Luc is short for Lucifer.  Wow!  You are taken back in shock.  You had permitted the enemy direct access to your own house.  How dumb you are!  How ignorant and neglectful you had become in your Christian walk!  No wonder Luc wanted the door to always remain locked.

Next the Lord impresses the following verse on your heart.  Revelation 3:20 – “Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me”.  You reflect on this verse for a few moments and realize the Holy Spirit is saying the house is your house and Jesus is knocking at your door.  Then a clear thought comes instantly to your mind.  “Take the key and open the basement door.”  It does not make much sense as your mind struggles with the persistent thoughts to open it or not to open it.  Then another thought from the Holy Spirit occurs: The Revelation Scripture relates to the lost key.

Jesus is personally telling you to open the door.  You excitingly hurry to do it.  What do you believe you will discover?  What do you believe was laid away for years and years collecting all dust and cobwebs?

If you (yes, you, the reader) right now, at this very moment, have a pure heart open to the love of God, you will definitely be experiencing the love of God in you and through you.  The Holy Spirit will definitely confirm my words.  You have finally unlocked the door of your heart.

Yes, brethren, the treasures of the very intimate love God has for you are behind the door; the treasures you have hidden and locked away in your heart for a very, very long time.  These treasures have only been collecting dust and cobwebs.  These are the hidden treasures of darknessIsaiah 45:2-7 – “I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass; and cut in sunder the bars of iron: and I will give thee THE TREASURES OF DARKNESS, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.  For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.  I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: that they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me.  I am the Lord, and there is none else.  I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things”.

What are these hidden treasures?  Contemplate them.  Is your burnt out Christian life the type of life Jesus came to provide?  Absolutely not.  Then what is the true life Jesus came to give?  The answer is to continue reading.  Press forward to the goal before you.  Read on to the next chapter.

Wilderness Christians: LET’S PLAY CHURCH 3 (Part 9)

LET’S PLAY CHURCH – Conclusion….

Meditate on the following scripture verses regarding the tongue.  God definitely knows what He is talking about.

  • James 1:19-20 – “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God”.
  • James 3:5-10 – “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.  Behold how great a little fire kindleth!  And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell… But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.  Therefore bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.  Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and curse.  My brethren, these things ought not so to be”.
  • Romans 3:13-14 – “Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips; whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”.
  • Matthew 15:18-19 – “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.  For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies”.
  • Psalm 34:13 – “Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile”.
  • Psalm 137:6 – “If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy”.
  • Psalm 140:3 – “They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips.  Selah”.
  • Proverbs 12:6 – “The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them”.
  • Proverbs 12:18 – “There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health”.
  • Proverbs 15:4 – “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit”.
  • Proverbs 15:23 – “A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it”!
  • Proverbs 18:4 – “The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook”.
  • Proverbs 18:21 – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”.
  • Proverbs 21:20,23 – “There is treasure is be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.  Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles”.
  • Proverbs 25:11 – “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver”.
  • Proverbs 25:15 – “By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone”.
  • Proverbs 26:28 – “A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin”.
  • Proverbs 27:6 – “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful”.

Finally, the example of our Lord Jesus Himself is always the most outstanding and magnificent example to study.   He always spoke precisely as the Father directed Him.  His words always had the true and pure love of God behind them.

Jesus’ example as the Suffering Servant of the Lord from Isaiah 53 always leaves me speechless.  Meditate on it well.

Isaiah 53:1-11 – “Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?  For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.  He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.  Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.  All we like sheep have gone astray; WE HAVE TURNED EVERY ONE TO HIS OWN WAY; and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.  He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet HE OPENED NOT HIS MOUTH: HE IS BROUGHT AS A LAMB TO THE SLAUGHTER, AND AS A SHEEP BEFORE HER SHEARERS IS DUMB, SO HE OPENED NOT HIS MOUTH.  He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare His generation? for He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was He stricken.  And He made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; BECAUSE HE HAD DONE NO VIOLENCE, NEITHER WAS ANY DECEIT IN HIS MOUTH.  Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him: He hath put Him to grief: when thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.  He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall My righteous servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.  Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He hath poured out His soul unto death: and He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the intercessors”.

Need I say anymore regarding the tongue.  Keep meditating on Isaiah 53, the Suffering Servant.

Let the love of Christ flow from your heart and control your tongue.

Enough already of this wilderness mentality.

Wilderness Christians: LET’S PLAY CHURCH 2 (Part 8)

LET’S PLAY CHURCH – continued….

You see this played out in the book of Numbers scripture stated at the beginning of this chapter.  The slanderers, busybodies, and experts on coveting are set to rebel against Moses and to challenge his authority.  They are readily equipped and well trained, loaded with ammunition from their vicious, poisonous tongues.  They need excitement.  They have become bored in the wilderness – bored with themselves, bored with Moses, bored with Aaron, bored with God, bored with manna, and bored with church.  They wanted excitement; so they made their own.  They wanted to fulfill their own lusts for flesh desires.  They could not go back to Egypt; so they brought Egypt to themselves.  They said – “The hell with God and Moses; we are all holy”.  How holy were they?  Holy enough according to their own standards and as holy as a golden calf – the god who took them out of Egypt.

The stage is now set for the primetime performance of the Christian Fellowship Church of the Wilderness.  It will compete well against the worldly primetime soap operas.  Notice first in Numbers 16:1-2, the ‘famous’ of the congregation have risen up against Moses.  These are the ones holy according to the people, not according to God.  They would be voted into church office.  They are the most influential, successful in business and politics.  God’s anointed are rejected, and replaced by those approved by man.  You are about to witness a church split.

Numbers 16:3 – “… all the congregation are holy, every one of them …  Here is the malicious tongue that Satan speaks through so well, always lying in wait and always twisting truth.   Wilderness Christians are very envious and eagerly attempt to pounce on the Lord’s anointed.  In this verse, they basically advised Moses they wanted to co-pastor with him; for everyone is holy, “the Lord is among them”.  They were all holy in the eyes of the congregation and not in the eyes of the Lord.  Is this not so prevalent in today’s churches?  No wonder many churches today are so dead and boring; they are churches of the wilderness.  Where do you exist?  The Holy Spirit will truly show you and reveal your heart.

Moses responded so wisely; he went directly to the Lord and interceded for the rebels.  What a magnificent example of an intercessor!  Moses used godly wisdom not to debate with the children of Israel.  We do well to study his example and patience in dealing with revelers and rebels.  In verse 7, Moses emphasized that the Lord will choose who is the holy one.  This is how it always must be; one can only be holy according to God, not according to man.  If someone is anointed in some area (ex. Moses as a spiritual leader), that person must be respected and obeyed as a representative of the Lord.  He requires heart-motivated obedience.  When a believer strays from this, he walks in the wilderness and will only see truth from his own eyes.  He will certainly rebel against spiritual authority; he becomes totally ignorant of his sin.   This primetime rebellion becomes a scandal and the brunt of jokes from the unsaved world.  No wonder many unsaved people refuse to become Christians; the hypocrisy of the Christian church is displayed right before their eyes in the national spotlight.  Satan will never permit it to pass by without exposing it further.  The problem with the unsaved world is not the unsaved world itself; it is wilderness Christians living as total hypocrites pretending to be holy in their own eyes.  There is no resurrected life in their testimony; no true love of Christ flowing out.  The only life the unsaved world sees is one of condemnation and judgment.  The unsaved world receives the message that Christians are more known for what they are against than for what they are for. Yes, this last sentence provides a very accurate description of the wilderness church.

(Personal Note: All the unsaved basically see on the news is wilderness Christians condemning homosexuality and picketing abortion clinics.  The irony is the unsaved world knows homosexuality and abortion are sins; and the unsaved world strongly desires to change.  However, no love-of-God motivation inspires them to.  It is incredible how frequently unbelievers have told me they truly love Jesus the person.  They are convinced beyond any doubt that He is the Son of God.  They strongly believe and understand the significance of His death and resurrection in God’s plan of salvation.  Yet, they refuse to come to Jesus for life.  Do you know why?  They fear becoming like the wilderness Christians.  They love Jesus but do not understand Christianity.  They see no love and rest in wilderness Christians.  They do not know of Canaan because most Christians live in the wilderness (coveting the sins of Egypt and seeing themselves as holy in their own eyes).  So the only obvious choice for unbelievers is to remain in Egypt.  I cannot blame them.  Wilderness Christians are the biggest hypocrites in the world.  They have become Pharisees.  Where do you fit in?)

How quickly one forgets the Lord’s personal salvation!  Egypt never left their hearts.  Is this what the unsaved world sees in your testimony?  Do they see the poison from your mouth?  How often do you slander or gossip about others?  How often do you walk with your self-righteous attitude on your shoulders and a big, puffed-up halo on your head?  How holy do you believe you are – in your eyes or in God’s eyes?  How often do you continue to live in Egypt; living in your fears and insecurity, and putting a legalistic Bible cover on your life?  Do not look to me for your answers.  The Word of God is well enough to stand your test.  Is it not about time you went directly to God, alone and often?  Is it finally time to cut out the circus you live in as a wilderness Christian?  What ever happened to your intimate love relationship with Him?

These influential, wilderness Christians always challenge the Lord’s anointed.  God will NEVER permit His anointed to be persecuted more than He permits.  Such was the case here with Moses.  In Numbers 16:32-35, the Lord opened the earth to swallow the rebels under Korah and fire from heaven consumed the 250 men of influence over the congregation.  The people failed to learn to ‘never touch the anointed of the Lord’.

You think the remaining children of Israel would heed this message?  Of course not!  How long do you think it lasted?  Not 24 hours.  Incredible!  Numbers 16:41 – “But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, YE HAVE KILLED THE PEOPLE OF THE LORD”.  Here the children of Israel again unleashed their poisonous tongues.  They could not even wait one day without opening their mouths.  Who can imagine what they conspired throughout the night before to do to Moses and Aaron?  Could Moses and Aaron themselves cause the earth to open to swallow them?  You can read the conclusion yourself in the book of Numbers through chapter 17.  With this rebellion, another 14,700 died as a result of a plague from the Lord.

From all this rebellion in only a few days, the danger of the power of the tongue is so obvious.  Often the Lord warns us to only use our tongue properly.  James writes that man can never control his own tongue.  Only the Holy Spirit can control the tongue of man; but a complete renewal of mind is required.  Consider why God created man with one tongue and two ears.  He clearly requests man do twice as much listening than talking.  Man has created the opposite.  We always speak as if we have two tongues and one ear.  Have you ever noticed how often people really listen when you are speaking?  Also, how often do you really listen when someone is speaking?  Frequently, my mind is preoccupied with other thoughts.  This is downright sin.  The person should have my undivided attention.  Jesus surely never preoccupied His thoughts when in the company of others.  (Remember that our tongue is basically our only body part that never tires.)

A quote by Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote/Man Of La Mancha, is very appropriate – “A closed mouth catches no flies”.

Wilderness Christians: LET’S PLAY CHURCH 1 (Part 7)

Numbers 16:1-7 – “Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the sons of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: and they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown.  And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing ALL THE CONGREGATION ARE HOLY, EVERY ONE OF THEM, AND THE LORD IS AMONG THEM: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the Lord?  And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face.  And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even tomorrow the Lord will show who are His, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto Him: even him whom he hath chosen will be cause to come near unto him.  This do; Take ye censers, Korah, and all his company; and put fire therein, and put incense in them before the Lord tomorrow: and it shall be that the man whom the Lord doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi”.

Life in the wilderness becomes very tedious.  The carnal Christian often must provide his own self-effort excitement to this soap opera.  Yes, the wilderness church is definitely a soap opera.  The sins of the flesh are so very obvious – the sins most common and most unique among wilderness Christians.  I see these sins so often: gossip, slander, and coveting.  I personally experienced them so often in the wilderness.

The wilderness church has more members with the occupation of busybodies than any other occupation.  I was quite an experienced busybody while living in the wilderness.  Believers would ask for prayer; then I would go to other believers to tell them to pray for these needs also.  However, I gossiped about the request.  It usually went something like this.  “Please pray for Bill.  You would not believe the trial he is going through.”  Then I would explain, to the exact detail, what the person was going through.

This is gossip.  I was a wilderness Christian; and like a wilderness Christian I was extremely bored.  So I became a busybody, a very big one.  It even sounded so well with one of my names – Bob Bennett the Busybody or Bob Bennett the Blabbermouth.  I had betrayed the trust and confidence of my friend.  Prayer requests are to remain confidential; they are not to be spread.  Details of the request are not even necessary to know.  I only needed to say (and should have said) – “Please pray for my friend”.  O how dangerous the tongue is!

The second most frequent occupation of a wilderness Christian would probably be a slanderer.  When I lived in the wilderness, I constantly slandered other Christians and non-Christians.  To summarize, I probably introduced myself like this – “Hi, my name is Bob.  I am a member of the Christian Fellowship Church of the Wilderness; and I am a slanderer.”  This is basically what I did.  I am sure you can easily identify.  Are you aware that the only part of our body that basically never tires or ages is the tongue?

How about the sin of coveting?  You rarely, if ever, hear about this sin.  Many Christians do not even know what the word means.  Coveting is basically a desire to possess someone/something that is not rightfully yours.  Coveting goes directly to the heart.  No wonder it is rarely spoken about; it penetrates the heart and ONLY the Word of God through the Holy Spirit can reveal it.  Yes, the Living Word is a double-edged sword.  You believe you are the only person aware of your covetousness.  However, thank God that our Lord only looks at the motives of the heart.  Thank God for His law to show us our true nature without Him.

In the last four years, I have heard only one or two messages on coveting from the pulpit, radio, or television.  In Romans 7, Paul amplifies so well the law of God revealing His covetous heart.  It is beneficial to read Romans 7 again when you place this book down; the Holy Spirit will reveal its full impact for you.   Wilderness Christians are definitely experts at coveting.  The flesh certainly does not want its true heart nature revealed.

Recall the accuracy of the words of the Lord through Paul.  Romans 8:5-8 – “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you”.

With this background information and lifestyle of the wilderness church, we are now ready for primetime.  Yes, the soap opera telecast of the wilderness church is now being played in primetime so the unbelieving world can see the hypocrisy and foolishness.  The slanderers, busybodies, and experts on coveting have written the plot “LET’S PLAY CHURCH.

Wilderness Christians: Christian Eagles (Part 6)

Eagles!  Yes!!!  Now we are in God’s line of business.

Do you see yourself as an eagle, His child?  Notice that birds fly in flocks; but eagles fly alone.  Do you walk the majority of your Christian walk in the intimacy of Christ?  If yes, you are on the correct, narrow path.  Few are on this path, for few see life through His eyes.  This is why God is so pleased and delighted with you.  He views only His precious eagle, His son or His daughter.  He desires you to see His way also.  Romans 6:11 – “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord”.

Why does God place such a strong emphasis on His children as eagles?  Why does He view us as eagles?  Again Scripture ALWAYS provides the most accurate and amplified answers.  I pray the Holy Spirit truly come alive in your heart right now so you can soar in your spirit on eagle’s wings.

  • Exodus 19:4 – “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself”.
  • Deuteronomy 28:49 – “The Lord shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand”.
  • Deuteronomy 32:10-12 – “He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; He led them about, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.  As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: so the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him”.
  • Job 39:26-30 – “Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?  Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?  She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.  From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.  Her young eyes also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she”.

Two questions for you to ponder from this scripture from Job.

  1. Who is the rock/strong place that you dwelleth and abideth on?
  2. Whose blood do you suck on? —-Yes, the living blood of Christ; because the life is in His blood.
  • Psalm 103:1-5 – “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His Holy Name.  Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquity; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s”.
  • Isaiah 40:28-31 – “Hast thou not known?  Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?  There is no searching of His understanding.  He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength.  Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”.
  • Jeremiah 49:16-17 –“Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though that shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.  Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof”.
  • Jeremiah 49:22 – “Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs”.
  • Ezekiel 17:1-7 – “And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, a great eagle with great wings, long-winged, full of feathers, which had divine colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar: He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants.  He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.  And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him, so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.  There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.  It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine”.

After reading these Scriptures, one can see why God has placed eagles in a special, unique position in His eyes – unique as a visible expression of her creator of love.   It is well-worth being an eagle.

God has truly created eagles to magnificently reveal and visibly display His glory and His majesty.  He strongly desires us to view ourselves the same way.  We are mounted up exultingly, high above the heavens.  We are deeply rooted in the life of Christ, secured by His blood.  We dwell and abide deeply in His heart, the true vine of the life and love of God.

Brethren, please absorb yourself as an eagle.  Your vulture days must be left on Calvary.  God has magnificently exalted you on His wings.  You now soar and glide in the gentle breeze and swift wind of His love.  Yes, He truly is magnificent.  He is worthy to be praised.  Absorb the Holy Spirit revelations of the following eagle characteristics and rejoice in the glory of God.

  • Self-analysis

Where are you at right now with your walk with Christ?  Are you a Christian vulture, living in the wilderness, waiting to swoop down with the brother and sister vultures to gobble up (and enjoy) the sins of the flesh?  A Christian vulture is blindly and ignorantly under the influence of Satan.  Christian vultures strongly execute the sins of coveting, slander, and gossip; sins committed most often against the body of Christ, their own brethren.

ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN VULTURE OR A CHRISTIAN EAGLE?

I pray this study on Vultures and Eagles has been a heavenly blessing for you.  When I began writing it, I only sensed the Holy Spirit directing me to write only one or two points.  However, the more I ministered unto the Lord and wrote, the more the Holy Spirit directed me to write.  Believe me that I had no idea that this much information and this type of information would be written in this chapter.  It has only blessed me continually and abundantly.  It definitely is inspired by the hand of God.  My hand became His hand.  My words became His words.  I pray it also bless you so exceedingly and abundantly.  Thank you for permitting me to share the heart of God.

Wilderness Christians: A CHRISTIAN VULTURE (Part 5)

Carcasses  and Vultures

Just the very mention of the word carcass brings clear, visible pictures of dead and decayed bodies (animal and human); bodies rotting away in a hot climate area with hordes of vultures hovering above instantly awaiting an opportunity to swiftly swoop in and devour the carcass.

It is remarkable that God would create a horrific bird like the vulture.  Yet, all of God’s creatures have a unique, specific role in creation.  When one examines closely the features and functions of the vulture, he sees why the vulture represents death.  It is a very degrading animal that only lives off death.  By familiarizing oneself with its features and functions, you will be amazed how easy a Christian can become a vulture.  Have you ever heard the phrase ‘a Christian vulture’?  Yes, a Christian vulture is a wilderness Christian feeding off and gobbling up the dead parts of the flesh.

Yes, a Christian vulture just gobbles up his own flesh carcass and the flesh carcasses of other wilderness Christians.  (Notice I stated ‘of other wilderness Christians’, because a true Christian walking in the pure, genuine love of Christ will not be affected by Christian vultures. His trust is only in His Savior.)  Christian vultures enjoy, with so much gluttony, the lusts of the flesh.

These lusts only produce flesh fruit.  It is critical for you to recognize and understand this rotten fruit.  Yes, it is your flesh; the flesh that a Christian vulture feeds and lives off – only death.  Brethren, this is your flesh – gross, repugnant, ghastly, repulsive, hostile, hideous, horrific, deathly, gruesome, immoral, lustful, lascivious, licentious, vulgar, despicable, hateful, offensive, abominable, and detestable.  Yes, there are many more descriptions to add.  The point being that God obviously desires you to strongly and clearly reflect and understand how truly disgusting your flesh is.  This is your life if you live in the wilderness – a wilderness Christian and/or a Christian vulture.  Do not be sore and angry with me for stating this.  God is writing this, through me.  Take it up with the Lord yourself.  God certainly does not need my opinion.

Yes, vultures only eat dead things.  Many nature documentaries always show vultures as the last group to eat any prey.  They are scavengers.  They never hunt.  They truly eat death.  This is what the wilderness Christian will be subject to if he remains in the wilderness.  If the fruits of the flesh strongly spring out, he is a carcass ready for vultures (demons and other wilderness Christians).  There is no spiritual life in flesh, even though there is spiritual life in the wilderness Christian.  The life of God is not in flesh.  The life of God is in the new man.  The life of God is Christ.  If the Christian does not permit the fruit of the Holy Spirit to flow through Him, the fruit of the flesh will.  Galatians 5:16-24 – “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.  For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.  But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murder, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell your before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.  And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affection and lusts”.

Absolutely remarkable that I was a Christian vulture for 17 wilderness years.  I was so puffed up with my outstanding knowledge of Scripture.  I would very easily gobble up any other wilderness Christian who would debate Scripture with me. Sometimes, I was gobbled up myself by a larger Christian vulture.  I admit that as a wilderness Christian, I became angry and bitter toward the larger Christian vulture.  How dare he shame me and gobble me up!  This is the mindset of the wilderness Christian.  What a sad life a Christian vulture lives – feeding off only the dead works of the flesh!

The flesh is only a decayed carcass – dead in the wilderness.  Obviously, God desires you to clearly reflect and VISUALIZE a carcass.  God desires you to see the gory and gruesome carcass, your gross flesh, so you can finally take your old man off/cast aside; and truly live as your new nature.  You will then be able to clearly view your new nature – an eagle in His eyes, instead of a vulture.

Wilderness Christians: RESPONSES TO DISCOURAGING REPORTS IN THE WILDERNESS (Part 4)

God’s Decision – Part 2

Numbers 14:26-38 – “And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying, How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against Me?  I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.  Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you: Your carcases shall fall in the wilderness; and all that were numbered of you,…, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me.  Doubtless ye shall not come into the land,…, save Caleb,…, and Joshua.  But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.  But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.  And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.  After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.  I the Lord have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in the wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.  And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land.  Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the Lord.  But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still”.

God will never overlook sin, but desires all to repent.  This is the very depth of His love for us.  In fact, sin is not even in His nature.  He placed all our sins behind His back, laid on the cross of His Son Jesus, crucified to death forever.  O how very grateful we must be and must express it.

Since we always possess a sinful nature, we continue to reap its consequences.  Thus, our flesh nature only grows more.  God will NEVER permit this.  Read the above verses again and reflect how God dealt with His children in the wilderness.

God specifically states four times that the children of Israel shall die in the wilderness – their carcasses shall fall and waste away.  You must be convinced that whenever Scripture reveals a point repeatedly, it is critical and invaluable to reflect on its spiritual significance.  In the above Scripture verses, the significant point is they shall die in the wilderness.  (Three times carcasses are stated.)  Pause and reflect with me for a moment, in silent prayer, that the Holy Spirit may reveal the spiritual significance of these verses.

Wilderness Christians: RESPONSES TO DISCOURAGING REPORTS IN THE WILDERNESS (Part 3)

God’s Decision – Part 1

Numbers 14:11-20 – “And the Lord said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me?  And how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shown among them?  I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.  And Moses said unto the Lord, Then the Egyptians will hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in Thy might from among them;) and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou Lord art among His people, that thou Lord art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.  Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying, Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land which He sware unto them, therefore He hath slain them in the wilderness.

“And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, The Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.  Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.  And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word”.

God is always swift and timely to execute judgment; however, His mercy and grace far outweigh His wrath because His wrath has been placed on His Son.  God is now satisfied with the propitiation death of His Son.  John 19:30 – “It is finished”.    How often through the intercession of another believer(s) does God outpour His grace?  This is very evident from Moses effectively interceding for the children of Israel.  Moses was an excellent and consistent intercessor, very effective.  It is noticeable that Moses always knew what to say and when to say it.  Recall that Moses spoke with God face to face, as a man speaks to a friend.  He was one God knew by name.  What a privilege!

If you are this type of intimate friend with God, you absolutely know that when you speak or intercede with a pure heart, God truly listens.  He always listens to a pure heart of love.  This is exactly what God did with Moses.  And did God ever move in. Even with all the flaws of Moses, especially of not taking the spiritual initiative to rebuke the ten spies and enter Canaan, God is always faithful.  Moses definitely was a man after God’s own heart.

What an outstanding example of an intercessor!  Brethren, study carefully the heart of Moses regarding intercessory prayer.  He truly cared for the children of Israel.  He truly loved the Lord.  Despite his shortcomings, as we all have, Moses did take the initiative to touch the heart of God.  Only someone with a deep, intimate love relationship with God can touch His heart.  Marvelous!

Regarding intercessory prayer, I am so proud of Moses.  I pray the Lord give me a heart like Moses when it comes to intercessory prayer – a heart to truly carry other’s burdens.  God strongly desires intercessors – ones only after His own heart.  Just look at Moses’ accurate facts mentioned above that he used in his intercessory prayer.  Do you sense the deep love and concern coming from his heart?  I do. This is the heart of an intercessor.  This is the heart of God.  God heard his heart clearly and pardoned the iniquity planned against the children of Israel (verse 20).  He pardoned according to the word of Moses.  Absolutely moving – so superb!

What a magnificent God to raise up weak people like Moses!  This is what God did for us.  We see the Lord always faithful in every moment of every day for His people.  He loves them so dearly.  He loves them so much.  In quietness and solitude, just absorb this love with me.

Remember, however, life at this time is still in the wilderness.  We must never forget this.  God’s love and presence were clearly seen; however, He never intended for them to reside there.  They chose the wilderness themselves.  According to the plan of God, they were to enter Canaan immediately by total faith in, total trust in, and total dependence on God.  They needed to apply it to a decision so God can prove His faithfulness.  Yet, they refused to believe.

Remember this also in your own daily walk with Christ.  If you live in the wilderness, you may experience explosive signs of God’s love and presence.  However, reality is you still reside in the wilderness.  Focus your mind to enter Canaan.

Because you live in the wilderness, you still breed sin.  You are exposed and very susceptible to snakes, scorpions, and drought.  Your flesh will grow due to this exposure.  Remember, God will never share flesh in His life – your flesh.  “No flesh shall glory in His presence”.  God deals, and that very swiftly, to dethrone your flesh.  He will bury it and you in your wilderness – as long as you continue to live in it.  Read on to Part 2 (when I post it) to see what God said He would do to the carcases of the Israelites in the wilderness.

Wilderness Christians: RESPONSES TO DISCOURAGING REPORTS IN THE WILDERNESS (Part 2)

Crybabies

Numbers 14:1-3 – “And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.  And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt!  Or would God we had died in the wilderness!  And wherefore hath the Lord brought us into this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey?  Were it not better for us to return into Egypt”?

The key point in these verses are the children of Israel ALL CRIED that night.  Then they had the audacity to blame God for their problem.  What a bunch of babies!  Cry!  Cry!  Cry!  They really never desired Canaan; they only desired Egypt and its bondage.  Like Adam, they wanted to be their own gods apart from the true God.  Is this not satanic?  Give these babies their baby bottles.  These Israelites were big-time whiners.  This is so obvious.  How do I know?  Because I was a big, crybaby whiner for 17 years.  This is the characteristic of a carnal, wilderness Christian. I am an expert on wilderness Christianity.  To put it very simply and candidly, all carnal, wilderness Christians ever do is cry.  For this very reason, Numbers 14:1 is an excellent example of wilderness Christians.

Do you see how easily a believer can backslide?  With countless evidence of the love and grace of God revealed, the believer hardens his heart and retreats into a backslidden life in the wilderness.  Quite incredible, but very true and very sad.  How the heart of God must be very deeply grieved when His children openly reject His love and choose instead to backslide into a sinful life in the wilderness!  How obvious that wilderness Christians somehow always blame God for their problems!  O, Lord, I thank you so much for Your grace for plucking me out of 17 years in the wilderness.  I thank you now for keeping me and satisfying me all these remaining years.  To You goes all the glory!

Crybaby Proposal

Numbers 14:3-4 –  “And wherefore hath the Lord brought us into this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey?  Were it not better for us to return into Egypt?  And they said to one another, LET US MAKE A CAPTAIN, AND LET US RETURN TO EGYPT”.

The main point in these verses is the focus on the children of Israel’s questions and proposal concerning Egypt.  First, they questioned the validity and the attractiveness to return to Egypt.  I am so shocked as I write this that anyone could be so dumb.  But, the story is true and accurate; and God has personally shown me many very dumb mistakes I have made as a Christian.  Yes, you and I are very capable of making dumb mistakes.  Thank God for His mercy, grace, and forgiveness.

Then they had the audacity to plot to overthrow Moses and select a new leader – a leader to lead them back to Egypt.  Maybe they had constructed another golden calf and hid it in one of their tents.  Obviously this conspiracy was planned for a very lengthy time.  How evil one can become!  Jesus did say that without Him we can do nothing.  We are all evil by nature, born separated from the Spirit of God.  Therefore, because of this evil, sinful nature, one is capable of any type of sin at any given time.  Again, thank God for His mercy and grace.

Anyway, is it not remarkable how evil they had become?  Who did they really have in their mind to replace Moses?  Obviously someone who shared their evil, sinful desires of Egypt.  Do you see how Satan would have basically become captain?  They reject God; therefore, ignorantly and very blindly, they select Satan.  Do you see how a crowd like this becomes breeding grounds for demons to become exalted through works of the flesh?  Carnal Christians always strive for Egypt, their unsaved days.  They basically pursue it at any cost, choosing Captain Satan to lead them on.

Seriously consider their proposal to return to Egypt.  One can raise immediate questions to poke holes in this ridiculous thought.

  1. Would Pharoah receive them as the father saw his prodigal son upon his coming home?  Luke 15:20-24 – “And he arose, and came to his father.  But when he was a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.  And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.  But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost and is found”.
  2. Would Pharoah rush with compassion to embrace them?  “Welcome home, my sons!”
  3. Would Pharoah permit them to remain free?
  4. Was Pharoah preparing to throw a feast?

O, he would throw a feast for sure.  They would be the sacrifice.  Pharoah would exclaim “Let us throw a feast; for my son was alive and has returned to death again”.  Yes, death in the bondage of slavery and taskmasters – the influences of hell.

Let us be real, brethren.  When you retreat to Egypt, you retreat into the hateful arms of Satan, not the loving arms of your Father.  What the heck of a life are you living now?  How blind has the dumb prince of darkness made you, that you strongly desire the lusts of Egyptian sin?  You complain and cry constantly that the Christian life is too difficult.  Wake up and realize for His sake.  The Christian life is not difficult to live.  It is impossible to live.  Why?  Because the Christian life is not an it.  The Christian life is a person, the Living God.  Jesus is your new life.  This new life is to be lived in Canaan, neither in Egypt nor in the wilderness.  Only Christ can live the Christian life through you, as much as you permit Him to.  You are to rest in His love.  The Christian life then becomes a joy, not a burden, as you continue to grow and rest in His love.  He takes over.

Please realize in all simplicity that the choice is yours.  You either rest in His love or you wander in the wilderness.  When you wander, you reject God and meander back toward Egypt – back through the wilderness of drought, death, and demons.  Your choice!  Choose life or death as your spiritual choice.  If you choose life, you proceed through the cross DAILY and rise DAILY to a new life in Christ through His resurrection.  I Corinthians 15:54-57 – “…Death is swallowed up in victory.  O death, where is thy sting?  O grave, where is thy victory?  The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”.  If you choose death, your unsaved spiritual father, the father of all lies, is awaiting in the wilderness with his open arms of hate, pride, and all remaining lustful desires of your flesh.  He is preparing a feast and you will be the sacrifice.  Again your choice!  It is a choice IN YOUR MIND.  I sincerely pray you choose life.  God bless you.

Brethren, I only know to make this point simple.  I have laid it out that a five-year old can understand.  Please open your heart as a child so the Holy Spirit can make these points more real and understandable in your daily walk.  My heart is deeply grieved for all who read this and reject it.  Please do not be among that number.  God bless you again and always.

For you, never drop your spiritual guard.  Maintain your deep, intimate love with Christ.  He will protect you very effectively from these types of temptations.
