(Healing & Victory Through Jesus Christ)

ONLY JESUS (Part 11 & Final Part of blog series Growth In The Vine)

  • Remember: A wasted life of a Christian branch is a waste to you, God, the Body of Christ, and the non-Christian world.
  • Remember well: Apart from Jesus (your Vine), you are a waste, a nothing.

Can a branch, broken off from the vine, lying on the ground bear fruit?  Of course not!  Its life source has been severed.  If a branch on its own cannot bear fruit, why do so many Christian branches attempt to produce fruit in the self-effort of their flesh?  Christians have enough problems just bearing fruit.  Yet, they insist to produce the fruit that only Jesus can produce.  They, ignorantly and blindly, fall into Satan’s trap that they can be their own god.  Satan effectively uses the trap that if a Christian sincerely does Christian things for God in self-effort, God will be pleased with him.  Remember: God is NOT pleased when a child of His comes into His presence smelling of the works of the flesh. “I knew what it takes to become a Christian.  But, I had no idea how to be the Christian I had become.”

We Christians so easily gloss over these spiritual principles.  Yet, they must be consistently reinforced until we resolutely understand that without “abiding in Jesus,” our life is a waste and passing away.  This includes our best efforts to honor God in our “Christian” works.

  • Only Jesus can live the Christian life through you.
  • Only Jesus is qualified to be the Christian in you.
  • Only Jesus can produce God’s fruit through you.
  • Only Jesus is to be seen in you.
  • Only Jesus is to be the focus for you.
  • Only Jesus and His love must motivate your every action.
  • ONLY JESUS!!!!!
  • Do you get it?  ONLY JESUS!

The key, therefore, for the Christian branch is to let Christ in her live the Christian life through her.  May the Christian branch consistently learn what “abiding” is.  Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.”

Since she cannot produce God’s fruit, what is God’s plan of action?  God will ensure His life is in the Vine.  In other words, God Himself will produce His fruit.  Jesus will ensure that He “abides” in His child.  God had to humble Himself to become a man to conquer sin and death through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ.  Then, His life would be available to be lived through His children.  God does everything.

The only work for you to do is to “rest” in the Son.  You are to “abide” totally confident in and completely surrendered to the life of the Vine for everything needed.  The Vine does everything; you do nothing – except to “abide.”  Many believe this rest to be a passive type of rest where one becomes lazy and lethargic.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  When you rest in the love of Jesus, your inactivity becomes His activity. Your life becomes a very active life because Jesus quickly moves in to produce His fruit through you.  All you will be focused on is growing in love with Jesus more intimately.  And that is the greatest experience to encounter on a daily basis – the intimate love of Jesus.

Let His own words convince you.  Matthew 11:28-30 “Come unto ME, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” I sure want “rest for my soul” in Jesus daily.  How about you?  You vacate; He moves in. You vacate; He moves in. You vacate; He moves in. You vacate; He moves in.  So give yourself a long vacation from living the Christian life on your own.  Rest in Jesus so He can live the Christian life through you.  Only He can.

So it is Christ in you (Colossians 1:27) Who is doing all the Father’s work in you and through you.  He will complete everything.  Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

The Christian life starts with Jesus, ends with Jesus, and is Jesus in the middle. The Christian life is Jesus Christ – the true vine source of the life of God.  Outstanding!  It is all His planning, His doing, and His fulfilling.  What an easier life to enjoy if you would just step out of the way and permit Jesus to take over.

John 3:30 “He (Jesus) must increase, but I must decrease.” Make yourself hidden so that all only see Jesus in you.

Colossians 3:3 “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” You will only be responding to the prompting(s) of the Holy Spirit in your inner man.  For you will only be focused on the love of Jesus.  You will easily be “abiding in Jesus” and Jesus will be “abiding in you.”

Unfortunately, we often forget these truths and cause much trouble for others and ourselves.  There are enough wounded butterflies without us joining the club or assisting others to join.  Therefore, we need constant reinforcement of these principles.  So meditate on them often:

  • You, a branch, are only to bear fruit for the glory of God.
  • You, a branch, always fail when you attempt to produce God’s fruit in the power of indwelling sin.
  • Only Jesus, the Vine, is the true vine of the life of God.
  • Only Jesus can produce God’s fruit through you.
  • REST IN THE VINE.
  • “ABIDE” IN JESUS.
